MDA Shamrocks - Little Girl

WESTBOROUGH, MA, March, 6, 2018 — More than 150 Shaw’s and Star Market locations in New England are raising funds to help free kids and adults from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases that severely weaken muscle strength and mobility during the 35th annual MDA Shamrocks program to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Until March 17th Shaw’s and Star Market are adding an iconic paper Shamrock (pinup) to their purchase at the checkout for just a $1, $5 or a larger contribution.  The MDA Shamrocks will be displayed on ceilings and walls in Shaw’s stores and Star Markets throughout New England, visually declaring their steadfast support to help kids and adults living with muscle-debilitating diseases.

“Each Shamrock sold is a symbol of strength, independence and life for kids and adults with life-threatening diseases who count on MDA to find answers and provide support,” said Paul Gossett – President of Shaw’s and Star Market. “We are proud of our long-term partnership with the MDA and to help support their mission to free individuals from muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases.”

Since first teaming up with MDA in 1994 Shaw’s, Star Market and their customers have raised more than $4 million to help MDA provide the families it serves with critical resources and support to fulfill life goals.  The MDA Shamrocks program unites tens of thousands of retail locations throughout the country to benefit the organization’s shared mission to fund groundbreaking research across diseases and provide individuals with life-enhancing programs and support services, including several state-of-the-art multidisciplinary Care Centers throughout New England.

Funds raised also make MDA summer camp possible for more than 100 area kids where they can experience the best week of the year at no cost to their families at Camp Hemlocks in Hebron, CT. The MDA Shamrocks program is the nation’s largest St. Patrick’s Day-themed fundraiser. This year, the MDA Shamrocks program will unite tens of thousands of retailers throughout the country to benefit the organization’s shared mission to find research breakthroughs across diseases; care for kids and adults from day one; and empower families with services and support in hometowns across America.
